The Quad Cities has several areas to shop at. There
are two major malls in the area, Northpark Mall in Davenport and Southpark Mall
in Moline. Both malls house hundreds of chain and specialty
stores. The 53rd Street Corridor in Davenport and John Deere Road in
Moline are also 'hot' places to shop. There are several
Strip Malls in the area that host a variety of chain and specialty
stores.
For a unique shopping experience you can also visit
the Village of East Davenport. The 'Village' is one of the oldest
parts of the Quad Cities, rich in heritage, and specializing in small
shops, restaurants, and pubs.
There are several grocery store
chains in the area for your food shopping. Hy-Vee Food Stores, Super
Wal-Mart, Super Target, Jewel Food Stores, and Fareway are all popular grocery
store chains. If you prefer the intimacy of smaller stores, there are
several neighborhood grocery stores such as Slagels and Rock Island Country
Market.
Just about everything you can imagine is available
for purchase in the Quad Cities. If you prefer larger shopping
facilities, Chicago is only a 3 hour drive away or the Mall of America in
Minneapolis, Minnesota is just 5 1/2 hours away.
Sales taxes in the local
area vary by city. The Illinois State sales tax is 6% and the Iowa
State sales tax is 5%. There are additional taxes in each area based
on city and county referendums. You can contact the local Chamber of
Commerce for more information on local taxes.
