There are dozens of preschools located on both sides of the
Mississippi. These days, the majority of children arrive at
kindergarten having already experienced the hands-on creative learning and
socialization that a good preschool offers. Each school has it's own
requirements for enrollment, and costs vary by location. A link to
the area yellow pages is located in the contacts/links section of this
topic.
The selection is daunting, from preschools that also
offer daycare for infants and go through first grade, to part-time traditional
preschools that follow a nine-month school schedule. However, there
are numerous choices in between. From church- to college-affiliated,
small family-owned to large, play oriented families have a wealth of preschools
from which to choose.
Head Start and Early Head Start are comprehensive
child development programs that serve children from birth to age 5, pregnant
women, and their families. They are child-focused programs and have the overall
goal of increasing the school readiness of young children in income-eligible
families.
