The Family Advocacy Program provides educational services on
parenting and new parent programs for families.
FAMILIES
FIRST:
Families First provides parenting education and family support
services to military families with children living within 30 miles of Rock
Island Arsenal. Services include but are not limited to, home visits,
a playgroup, and activities to nurture healthy parent-child
relationships. Parenting education topics include pre- and post-natal
information, child development, behavior management, encouraging positive
self-esteem and a host of others. Services are provided by a
Registered Nurse who also has experience as a military spouse and
mother.
Families First also offers 'Strolling Moms', a program to
encourage military mothers to exercise and socialize in a relaxed
environment.
Army Community Service offers a Fatherhood
Program to encourage and strengthen the relationship between fathers and their
children. The Fatherhood Program organizes different monthly
activities for military fathers and children to participate in. Past
activities have included miniature golf, hayrides, bowling, and inspirational
speakers.
The Family Advocacy Program in conjunction with
Children and Youth Services also present monthly educational sessions for all
members of RIA. Past topics have included potty training, temper
tantrums, homework issues, and speaking to your children on tough
