the Spouse Employment Preference, building 102. With this program it
can be difficult to obtain employment in the continental U.S. under this
program. However, spouses can always apply on open competetive,
external vacancies.

questions contact the Employment Readiness Center. Open M-F,
8:00-4:30, Building 110, First Floor, East Wing. (Call in advance to
avoid waiting). The center provides: resource assessment
and reference library; private sector job listings; help with resumes, OF-612
and Resumix (Federal data based resumes) preparation; career development; pay
scales information; Dictionary of Occupational Title software; small business
information; home-based business information and jobs; temporary employment
agency listing; professional licensing information; videos (on interviewing, job
search, professional image, self-esteem and marketing yourself); job corps
information; educational resources; youth employment information; employment
workshops; automated scholarship search; local employer job bank; access to the
world wide web; employment counseling,; career interest testing; resume,
application, and letter-writing assistance; specialized assistance for the
differently-able, young adults, students and seasoned citizens; assessment
tests; scholarship searches; and job shadowing. Clients have the
ability to work on their own using Resume and OF-612 software, videos, job bank,
and our reference library. A phone, copier, fax machine, and job
search reference library are available for client's use.

state and county employment. Rock Island Arsenal is not a single
employer, but rather a collection of federal and private sector employers under
the umbrella of the military community hosted by the Garrison of Rock Island
Arsenal. The several employers on Arsenal Island come from different
agencies and they hire using their own methods. There is no
"one-stop" employment center on Arsenal Island. The following is a

employer. NAF means that program and payroll monies come from the

cafeterias, Arsenal Club, fitness center, auto craft shop and outdoor recreation

State
Employment:
Illinois and Iowa state-employment information is best sought
at the appropriate workforce development center (see below for
information). Eligible service and prior-service clients might also
seek the advice of their state Veterans' Employment Representatives at the
workforce centers. Expect to compete using a traditional civil
service examination system plus various application and testing
procedures. Only after you are qualified and placed on state job
registers can you determine what jobs are available by county.

1) Rock Island County. This county tends to hire
by department and job leads are best done by contacting appropriate

tends to operate a centralized hiring system. Their Personnel office
