What is Family Advocacy? This program is a Department
of Defense initiative for the prevention, education, intervention and treatment
of child and spouse abuse. How does it work? When a suspected case of
abuse occurs it is reported to the Family Advocacy Officer (FAO). It
is the responsibility of the FAO to investigate and track all cases of
abuse. Will one person decide a
case? NO!!! After the investigation, a multidisciplinary
committee will review the case and decide if the case is
substantiated. The committee then recommends a plan of action to the
service member's Commanding Officer. The goals of the program are to
ensure safety, strengthen families and provide prevention education.
