The Monterey bay area has experienced a recent explosion in
housing costs for both rentals and purchases. The rental cost for a
three-bedroom house is averaging $1600 to $1800 a month. Apartments are a little
lower. However, on post housing is available and encouraged. Check
the housing web site listed for the local newspapers, and verify the rental and
purchase costs. The local paper is the Monterey Herald, which runs a "New Today"
section in the classifieds, and always has a list of properties, apartments and
houses for rent.
Monterey Bay Property Management specializes in rentals
of furnished apartments and houses in the area. The rents include all utilities,
including basic telephone service. Included in the types of rentals are studio
apartments, condominiums and 3 or 4 bedroom houses. The rents tend to be high,
but it's worth a call, especially, if on a TDY or learning one of the shorter
languages.
