The Children's Center
Program has been in operation in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District
since World War II when child care was needed for parents working to support the
war effort. Currently the district is funded for 285 children. Parents must be
low income, working, training in a program which leads to employment, or looking
for employment. Children referred from protective services are also eligible for
placement. The Centers are open daily from 7:15 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. year round.
Children in the program are ages 18 months to three years old. The Centers
provide a safe and nurturing environment for young children as well as an
educational program.
