If, for any reason, you should need emergency assistance while in transit, there are several contacts you can make:

1.  Soldiers and family members who are in a travel status and require assistance should call the ARMY TRAVELERS ASSISTANCE (ATAC) at 1-800-582-5552. The ATAC is dedicated to providing assistance to soldiers and family members who are experiencing problems while traveling.

2.  If you are near a military installation, call the Army Community Service or Family Service Center to find out what kind of assistance is available.  It doesn't matter which branch of the service-Army, Air Force, Navy or Marines. All will be willing to help. Look in the phone book under "United States".

3.  Call the local branch of the American Red Cross.  They will either help outright, or make sure you get a good referral.

4.  Join an auto club such as the American Automobile Association or one of the major retail clubs, like Montgomery Wards or Sears.

5.  It helps to have a major credit card with you to help pay for any emergency, i.e. Master Card, VISA.
