The "New Parents Support Program," is a voluntary program run by
the Family Advocacy Nurse. Personalized services are available for
expecting and new first-time families through phone contacts, hospital rounds,
office visits and home visits. This program also provides Early
Pregnancy and Parenting - Birth to 3 years Classes, along with a MOM TOTS and
SOMETIMES POPS Group.
Family Advocacy rotates offering a Parenting Class
with our Family Support Center.
While Family Support Center offers the
"Love and Logic" course, the Family Advocacy offers the Systematic Training for
Effective Parenting (STEP) course.
The STEP parenting course is focus
toward Young Children under the age of six. However, parents with
older children can also benefit from the course. We also can focus
the course toward Teenagers if the need exists. The STEP parenting
emphasizes understanding, communication and self esteem building as well as
teaching cooperation and social and emotional development of the
child. Reflective listening and I-messages techniques are
demonstrated and practiced. The concept of Logical consequences is
presented and the uniqueness of each child is stressed.
