Naval Brig Miramar Naval Consolidated Brig Miramar is one of two Navy consolidated brigs and also serves as the Pacific area regional confinement facility for the Department of Defense. The mission of the brig is threefold: *To ensure the security, good order, discipline, and safety of prisoners and detained personnel. *To return as many personnel to honorable service as possible. *To teach skills necessary to become productive citizens. The brig has been accredited since 1993 by the American Correctional Association (ACA). This is the only nationally recognized accreditation agency for adult and juvenile correctional facilities. The recognized benefits of accreditation include improved management, a defense against lawsuits through documentation, the demonstration of a "good faith" effort to improve conditions of confinement, increased accountability, enhanced public credibility for staff, and a safer and more humane environment for staff and offenders.
