At any given time, the Colorado Springs area is home to about 29,000 military personnel.  That doesn't include military retirees or civilians with military-contracted jobs.  The Pikes Peak region has the third-highest concentration of military retirees - all branches - in the nation.

In addition to Peterson AFB and Cheyenne Mountain AFS. Colorado Springs is home to the USAF Academy, Schriever AFB, and Fort Carson Army Post.

FORT CARSON:
The largest installation in Colorado Springs is Fort Carson, consisting of 140,000 acres.  Located southwest of Colorado Springs, their focus is to train Army units for war.  With a military population of over 15,000, it is the second largest training facility in the United States.

USAF ACADEMY:
Located north of Colorado Springs, the USAF Academy is one of the finest academic learning centers in the world.  Its main purpose is to educate and prepare career officers for the Air Force.  Approximately 4,300 cadets attend the Academy.

SCHRIEVER AFB:
Located 10 miles east of Colorado Springs, Schriever AFB features the 50th Space Wing which maintains a worldwide network of military satellite tracking stations.  There are approximately 4,000 military and civilian employees who work at this installation.
