One of the first places you should consider visiting when exploring employment opportunities is the Bolling Airmen & Family Readiness Center. They have a wide range of employment-related resources on hand and provide expert assistance in such areas as: helping you to focus on which career may best suite your interests, resume writing, job search, interviewing techniques, salary negotiation, etc.
The Center's resource room is well stocked with an array of career-related reading material, journal publications and employment listings, along with a variety of books that list associations, recruiters, national and regional directories, the occupational outlook for various careers, etc.
Computers that contain programs such as Microsoft Office, Salary and Relocation Assessor, Winway Resume, federal job applications, etc., are available for your use as you search for employment. These computers are connected to the internet so that you may search for jobs on-line. There is also a copier and facsimile machine available to you.
Job opportunities in the National Capital Region are quite plentiful in most occupational areas and at all levels of experience, especially in the Federal sector. Current unemployment rates are shown at 7.0% in the District, 3.1% in Maryland and 3.4% in Virginia (since these percentages often change, please check the Department of Labor's statistics for the most updated figures).
You may also find a desired position on base, whether it is with the Services Division, Base Exchange (AAFES), Commissary (DeCA), or perhaps even a contracted service.
For job-hunting purposes, be sure to hand carry with you all of your employment-related records and documents, resumes, applications, school transcripts, certificates and licenses.
Depending on your individual circumstances and local regulations, you may even be eligible for unemployment benefits until you land a job. Be sure to inquire about these benefits at the local Unemployment Office in the area in which you will reside.
