TRAFFIC- Florida State laws apply onboard NAS Pensacola, Whiting Field, NETPMSA and Center for Information Dominance Corry Station.
Motor vehicle (POV) registration is done at Building 777 - Pass and Tag Office.
To register your vehicle on-board NAS Pensacola Region, Whiting Field, NETPMSA and Center for Information Dominance Corry Station, you must show: ID Card, proof of insurance (minimum requirement is 10/20/10); proof of registration; and a current, valid driver's license.
SEAT BELTS are mandatory in all vehicles manufactured after model year 1966. This is mandatory for all military service members and Reserve Component members driving or riding in a POV/Government Vehicle on or off the installation. Restraint systems will be worn by all civilian personnel (family members, guests, and visitors) driving or riding in a POV on the installation.
INFANT/CHILD RESTRAIN DEVICES (Car Seats) - are required in POVs for children 4 years old or under.
HEADLIGHTS are mandatory during rain, fog, dusk, and of course, at night.
TRAFFIC SPEED - limit is 20 mph unless otherwise posted; traffic is busiest between 0600-0800 and 1500-1700.
Riding in the back of pick-up trucks is illegal, unless the bed of the truck is equipped with seats and seatbelts.
Owners of vehicles are required to have both front and rear bumpers mounted within certain height levels. Height limitations are governed by the new shipping weight of the vehicle; not the modified or altered weight. The maximum allowable heights between the pavement and bottom of the front and rear bumper are:
*Cars with a net weight of less than 2,500 bounds - 22 inches front and rear.
*Cars 2,500 pounds or more but less than 3,500 pounds - 24 inches front and 26 inches rear
*Cars 3,500 pounds or more - 27 inches front; 29 inches rear
*Trucks under 2,000 - 24 inches front; 26 inches rear
*Trucks 2,000 pounds or more but less than 3,000 pounds - 27 inches front, and 29 inches rear
*Trucks 3,000 pounds or more but not more than 5,000 pounds - 28 inches front, 30 inches rear
MOTORCYCLES - requirements for registration on-board the military installations requires you be a certified, licensed motorcylce operator, carry insurance and have proof of registration. You must wear a helment (even though it is not required by State Law), eye protection (also required by State Law), long pants, shirt, and boots (or full shoe - no sandles or barefeet).
BICYCLES - Bicyclists must obey all traffic control signals. An adult bicyclist may carry a child in a backpack or sling, child seat or trailer designed to carry children. You may not allow a passenger to remain in a child seat or carrier when you are not in immediate control of the bicycle. Bicyclists and passengers must wear helments approved by ANSI, Snell or other standard recognized by Florida (in the community it is required by law only if under age 16, but all ages are strongly encouraged to wear a helment). Keep at least one hand on the handlebars at all times. A bicyclist on a sidewalk or crosswalk muyst yield the right of way to pedestrians. For use between sunset and sunrise, a bicycle must be equipped with a lamp on the front exhibiting a white light visible from 500 feet to the front and both a red reflector and a lamp on the rear exhibiting a red light visible from 600 feet to the rear. If you are not traveling at the speed of other traffic, stay on the rightmost portion of the roadway except when passing, making a left turn, avoiding hazards, or when a lane is too narrow for you and a car to share it safely. Do not ride two abreast when it will impede traffic. Signal your intent to turn to other vehicle operators by pointing in the direction you are going to turn. Do not wear headphones or any other listening device except a hearing aid while bicycling. Do not ride a bicycle when under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
MOPEDS - You must be 16 years of age or older to operate a moped on a public road (this installation). Operators of mopeds must have the minimum of a Class E license. No motorcycle endorsement is required. Mopeds must be registered annually and a tag purchased. Mopeds may not be operated on bicycle or foot paths. No person may operate a Moped at a speed greater than 25mph. Moped operators do not have to have PIP insurance. On the military installation you are required to wear a helment (not in the civilian community).
WINDOW TINTING - Windshields may not be covered or treated with any material which has the effect of making the windshield reflective or in any way non-transparent. It must be free of any stickers not required by law (i.e., base decal, parking permit). Side Windows may not be composed of, covered by, or treated with any ,material which has a highly reflective or mirrored appearance and reflects more than 35% of the light. Rear Windows: when the rear window is composed of, covered by, or treated with any material which makes the rear window non-transparent, the vehicle must be equipped with side mirrors on both sides.
RADAR DECTECTORS - All radar detection devices are illegal aboard the naval installations here in Pensacola.
CELL PHONES - As of 1 December 2005, on all DoD installations cell phone use is prohibited in moving vehicles (both government and privately owned), unless used with a hands-free device or safely parked. A $50.00 fine will be imposed on violators.
WEARING OF HEADPHONES WHILE OPERATING A VEHICLE - the wearing of any portable headphone, earphones, or other listening devices (except for hands-free cellular devices) while operating a motor vehicle is prohibited.
VEHICLE CHECKS - All vehicles entering or leaving the various military installations her at Pensacola are subject to search. NAS Security conducts searches periodically
with the use of military dogs.
CROSSWALKS - all vehicles will come to a complete stop when personnel are in a crosswalk.
TROOP FORMATIONS - all troop formations have the right of way.
NOTE: IT IS ILLEGAL TO LEAVE SMALL CHILDREN AND/OR PETS IN UNATTENDED VEHICLES DURING THE SPRING, SUMMER AND FALL. It gets too hot (in excess of 100 degrees) and could cause permanent injury and/or death. There is a fine for leaving children/pets in unattended vehilces during these times - law enforcement or rescue personnel are subject to enter vehicles, by whatever means necessary, to remove children or pets in order to avoid injury or death occurring.
