So you're moving to NAS Patuxent River. You should be
pleasantly surprised at how beautiful this area is and all that it has to
offer. You can do a multitude of outdoor activities such as going to
beaches, boating, fishing, crabbing, and hunting.
Morale, Welfare and
Recreation (MWR) adds to the outdoor, as well as indoor, fun by providing sports
activities such as paddle boating, canoeing, camping, golfing, baseball,
softball, volleyball, basketball, weight training, exercise classes, swimming,
and bowling. The base even has a movie theater, a woodworking shop,
and a do-it-yourself auto repair garage. The Rassieur Youth Center
provides the School Age Care Program and other programs as
announced. During the summer there are extra hours and activities
provided.
If you want to go on a trip to one of the nearby
amusement centers or tourist attractions chances are that MWR will offer you the
chance.
At this time there is no youth sponsorship on our
base. But every attempt is made to assign a sponsor to an inbound
service member. This person may have a child who could write to
yours.
Don't forget you can always call the Fleet and Family
Support Center and we will help in any way we can. Our employment
counselors can help with job searches for summer or after school
employment. Referral services to volunteer positions will also be
provided. These experiences will enhance the marketable skills needed
to secure paid positions. The program offers assistance in writing
resumes, completing applications, networking and interviewing techniques.
