Arrivals via commercial air carrier will land at one of three
airports in the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore areas. Because of the
rural location of Patuxent River, no public transportation is available between
the airports and the base. To avoid being stranded at an airport,
call your sponsor to arrange a pickup. If you do not know who your
sponsor is , call your command. If possible, have either a nationally
recognized credit card or enough cash on hand to rent a car. Taxi service is
available, but costs may be over $100. In order to be reimbursed for taxi fares
or rental car fees, orders must specifically state: "Authorized to utilize taxi
or rental car from airport to ultimate destination." NAS Pax River
does have a shuttle bus service to/from Ronald Reagan National
Airport. The "Pax Shuttle" is a free transportation service available
from Ronald Reagan Nationl Airport M-F (NO WEEKEND OR HOLIDAY
SERVICE). The shuttle departs from near the flag pole in front of the
old main terminal departure. The current shuttle schedule has two
departures from the airport at 8:35-8:40 A.M. (arriving at 1:00 P.M. at Pax) and
2:10-2:40 P.M. (arriving at 5:00 P.M.). This schedule is subject to
change. Be sure to check with your command, your sponsor, or the
Public Works Transportation Office at 301-342-5088/DSN 342-5088 for changes.
