Families at Patuxent River find an invaluable resource at the
Child Development Program. Full time child care for infants six weeks
through five years is available. The program has a Central Enrollment
Waiting List for center-based care, child development home care, and school age
care (before and after school care). The Child Development Program
does offer a referral service for all eligible patrons. Their referral booklet
lists names and numbers of all the local area center-based daycare
facilities. All active duty, DoD employees, active/inactive
reservists, delayed entry personnel and the retirees associated with NAS,
Patuxent River, Webster Field and Solomon's Annex are eligible to use this
program. Call for more information.
The Child Development
Program offers full-time care. Children are grouped according to
age: infants, toddlers, twos, threes, fours and fives. The
daily schedule is divided into active and quiet play time and is designed to
support the child's most important years of growth and
learning. Children who stay at the centers will have the opportunity
to establish and maintain friendships and become responsible for their actions
through self-discipline. Art and music activities, and units on number
recognition, holidays, seasons, health, safety, and family structure allow
children to develop language, math, and social skills.
The Child
Development Home program at Patuxent River offers licensed home daycare
providers in seven different Navy housing areas. Children in Child
Development Home care are able to experience a warm, family environment in a
provider's home. Thus, they can build a trusting relationship with a
provider who will foster their curiosity and creativity, provide guidance, and
give them the hugs they need! The flexibility of rates and hours of
operation are tailored to the special needs of military families. Drop-in,
nights, and weekend care are available through the Child Development Home
program.
The School Age Care Program (SAC), provided for active duty and
DoD civilians, is located at the Rassieur Youth Center, hosts a variety of
organized, supervised activities. Children can engage in music,
drama, arts & crafts, and outdoor sports and recreation
activities. The SAC encourages self-reliance, leadership, social and
safety skills through both structured and child-directed
activities. Programs are available for before & after school
care.
