Traffic -- Speed limit onboard NS Pascagoula is 25 mph unless otherwise posted.  Seat belts are mandatory both on military installations and in the state of Mississippi. Children under the age of four must be properly restrained in an authorized car seat.

Drivers License -- Military personnel and family members with a current valid driver's license are not required to obtain MS drivers license. To obtain a MS drivers license, you must take a written test and eye test.  With a valid out of state drivers license, you are not required to take a road test.  The cost is $20.00 for a license.  Teens, 15 years old may apply for a permit.  The application must be signed by parents and notarized. Fifteen year olds must use the permit for 180 days before taking the road test.  Permits cost $1.00. Traffic Rules book cost 50 cents.

License Plates -- Active duty military are eligilbe for a Military Exemption fee.  Proof of non-residency is required via a Military Exemption Letter.  This letter may be picked up at NS Pascagoula Legal Office.  To obtain this letter, the member will need to bring with him a current registration and title of vehicle and current LES.  Spouses may obtain this letter, but they will need a power of attorney along with the other documents.  Cost is $25.00/cars, $17.00/trucks.

Vehicle Inspections -- Inspections are required yearly for MS-registered vehicles.  Inspections are conducted at State certified locations, such as repair shops, car dealerships etc., throughout the area.

Accidents -- If you have an accident while driving, you must report it to the police.  It is required for all drivers to have vehicle insurance coverage.

Other Rules -- Helmets must be worn while operating a motorcycle, motor scooter, or bicycle.  When driving in the rain, vehicle operators are required to turn on their headlights (not just parking lights).  MISSISSIPPI has ZERO TOLERANCE for operators of motor vehicles who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
