Emergencies can happen while in route to new duty stations.  If  time and circumstances allow, travelers should look to the  nearest military installation for help,(pre-planning your trip and knowing what installations are near the chosen route can help). FFSCs can provide this information. DO NOT DELAY immediate emergency requirements, such as vital medical care, in a time-consuming search for military facilities.  You can contact the local American Red Cross or private organizations such as the AAA (if the traveler is a member) are useful sources of information, otherwise local information can  provide assistance numbers.  "911" calls should be reserved for  life-threatening situations only.

If you are short of funds while traveling to the area, you may take your service records to any military installation with a disbursing office and receive any monies due to you up to that day.

If you need more time in transit due to the emergency, contact your command as soon as possible.  They can extend a report in time for a true emergency and prevent you from reporting late to your new duty station.
