The Fleet and Family Support Center can provide you with contact
information on any social service agency in the local area. Agencies
include:
BAY COUNTY COUNCIL ON AGING
Offers supportive services
designed to meet the needs of residents over 60. Assistance provided
with information, referral, nutrition, transportation, homemaker and respite
services. Services include the Commodities Program, Elderly Dimension
Program, Nutrition Program, Meals on Wheels, Transportation Program,
Weatherization Program, Community Care for the Elderly Program, and a Retired
Senior Volunteer Program. Some services are restricted by
income.
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES (HRS)
HRS
provides a broad spectrum of State and Community services. Some
services are restricted by income. Services
include: Adoptions, aging and adult services, protective services for
children and elderly, child support enforcement, children's medical services,
day care licensing, delinquent case management for youth, developmental
services, Food Stamps and Aid For Families With Dependent Children.
LIFE
MANAGEMENT CENTER OF NORTHWEST FLORIDA
Comprehensive services available
to children, adolescents, adults and senior adults for personal adjustment and
mental health difficulties. A 24-hour, 7 day a week emergency service
is available for mental health difficulties. Fees are determined on a
sliding scale, according to income and family size. Some services are
covered by TRICARE, Medicare, Medicaid, and some private insurance
policies.
Information, literature, and guidance toward a healthy
cardiovascular system. Provides research and education with a goal to
eliminate disease and stroke. Community program services in high
blood pressure, nutrition, exercise, and smoking cessation.
AMERICAN RED
CROSS, CENTRAL PANHANDLE CHAPTER
Provides services to military families,
blood collection, immediate aid for disaster victims, and medical
transportation. Teaches first aid, CPR, and water safety
courses.
CATHOLIC SOCIAL SERVICES
Services provided include family
counseling, emergency services, homeless shelter, adoption and foster
care.
EARLY CHILDHOOD SERVICES, INC.
Provides early childhood
services to disadvantaged children to include child care, health and development
screenings, education, referral services, and parent education.
FAMILY
SERVICE AGENCY
Socially and economically assists families in resolving
immediate problems in the areas of shelter, utilities, medication, food,
clothing, transportation, referral and counseling.
MENTAL HEALTH
ASSOCIATION OF BAY COUNTY
Prevention of mental illness, promoting mental
health awareness, and improved care and treatment of the mentally
ill. Programs on education, information, and direct services for
mentally ill. Offers advocacy and support groups and prevention
programs. Involved in legislation to benefit residents of Bay and
surrounding counties.
THE SALVATION ARMY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND RAPE
CRISIS PROGRAM
Serves victims of physical, mental, and sexual abuse and
their dependents. Provides a 24-hour crisis line, counseling,
advocacy, temporary emergency shelter, education and in-service
training.
UNITED CEREBRAL PALSY, D.R. HINTON CENTER
Provides
individual therapeutic, educational and support programming for children and
their families, as well as supported employment and independent living services
for adults with developmental disabilities.
UNITED WAY INFORMATION AND
REFERRAL
United Way of Northwest Florida Affiliated Agencies help people
in Bay, Calhoun, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, and Washington Counties. They fund local
priority programs that help people who really need help become more healthy,
self-sufficient, and involved in caring for themselves and one another.
