TRAFFIC LAWS of Virginia apply on NAS Oceana. Seat
belts are required on base. The Virginia law states that seat belts
are required for front seat passengers. Child safety seats are required for all
children up to age six. It is recommended that booster seats with shoulder
harnesses be used with children six to eight years old or up to eighty
pounds. It is illegal to use radar detection devices in
Virginia. State inspection stickers are required annually for all
vehicles entering NAS Oceana, regardless of where the vehicle is
registered.
INSURANCE: All drivers must present evidence of
insurance which must cover the vehicle and the driver and be for the following
minimum amounts: Public Liability $25,000 (injury or death of one
person); $50,000 (injury or death of two or more persons); $20,000 (property
damage). Lesser amounts of insurance are acceptable provided that
they meet the minimum requirements of the state from which the registered owner
of the vehicles has been transferred until the current policy has
expired.
TO REPORT AN ACCIDENT on base, contact Base Security Watch
Commander at 433-3103. To report an accident in off base, contact the
local police. For emergencies on base call 433-9911. For off base
emergencies use 911.
SAFETY INSPECTIONS in Virginia are required annually
and cost $15.00. Vehicles registered in states having safety
inspection laws must display current safety inspection sticker, either from the
state of registration or Virginia. Owners with vehicles registered in
states not having mandatory safety inspection requirements must present evidence
of having been inspected by an authorized Virginia State Inspection
Agent.
VEHICLE REGISTRATION for the State of Virginia can be done at the
