Program
Frequent military moves create employment challenges for
spouses. The Spouse Employment Assistance Program (SEAP) at Oceana's
Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC) assists military family members before
and after the move.
Prior to the Move
Access classified
ads from the local newspaper, The Virginian-Pilot
Check job listings at
the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC).
On base opportunities include
MWR jobs with the Regional NAF Personnel Office, Department of Navy Human
Resources (DONHR), Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and the Navy Exchange.
Research local businesses and industry via the Internet or contacting the
Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce (757) 664-2522.
Sign up with
national Staffing Agencies who can place you into permanent, part time, or
temporary jobs in Hampton Roads. Make sure the company that hires you
pays the Staffing Agency. If you sign up permanently with Adecco's
Career Accelerator program you still have a permanent job and benefits when your
spouse relocates.

After the Move
Oceana's Career Development Resource
Center (CDRC) houses job lead binders and computers with Microsoft Word,
employment websites, and Internet access.
Walk in or make an appointment
to speak with one of the Employment Educators. They can help you hone
your job search, target your resume, or conduct a mock interview.
Pick up a
list of Job Fairs, bring your resume in for review or research educational
and/or volunteer opportunities.
Norfolk and Little Creek have Virginia
Employment Commission (VEC) Representatives on site.
Oceana and Little
Creek have monthly Job Network Employer Panels.
Every CDRC offers free
classes in career planning, resume writing, job searching, interviewing, federal
employment and owning your own business.
