Dam Neck is located on the Atlantic coast, five miles south of the downtown resort of the Virginia Beach and has 3.2 miles of the some of the most beautiful beach front in Virginia.  

Founded in 1941 as an anti-aircraft range, the base still boasts the the Navy's only open-ocean, live firing training facility featuring major caliper weapons.  

Host to many tenant commands,over 5,600 instructors, students, and support personnel live or work at Dam Neck.  Each year, over 17,000 students graduate from one of over 200 courses of instruction.  


Directions to Dam Neck:  

From Norfolk International Airport:
Take Interstate I-64 East to Interstate 264 East (toward Virginia Beach Oceanfront) to exit #7 First Colonial Road South.  At the light turn right onto First Colonial which changes to Oceana Boulevard, continue past NAS Oceana's main gate until Oceana Boulevard ends at General Booth Boulevard.  Turn (merge) right onto General Booth Boulevard and take first left at stoplight onto Dam Neck Road (There is an Exxon and Texaco Gas Station on each corner).  Follow Dam Neck Road approximately 2 miles straight into Main Gate.  Pass and ID office is adjacent to main gate, where you can get specific directions and base map.  There is a Fleet and Family Support Center Military Information kiosk located in the airport to assist you with securing transportation.  Call (800)FSCLINE to locate the kiosk.

If coming from I-95:
In Emporia you will exit I-95 (Exit #11) onto Route #58 East (towards Norfolk and Virginia Beach) to Route #64 West (towards Norfolk, Hampton and Richmond) to Route #264 East (towards Virginia Beach Oceanfront) to exit #7-First Colonial Road-South.  At the light turn right onto First Colonial which changes to Oceana Boulevard, continue past NAS Oceana's Main Gate until Ocean Boulevard ends at General Booth Boulevard.  Turn (merge) right onto General Booth and take first left at the stoplight onto Dam Neck Road.  Follow Dam Neck into the main gate.

If coming from Route #64 north of Norfolk:
Follow I-64 East through the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel into Norfolk.  Take Route #264 East (towards Virginia Beach Oceanfront) to exit-First Colonial Road-South.  At the light turn right onto First Colonial which changes to Oceana Boulevard, continue past NAS Oceana's Main Gate until Ocean Boulevard ends at General Booth Boulevard.  Turn (merge) right onto General Booth and take first left at stoplight onto Dam Neck Road.  Follow Dam Neck into the main gate.

If coming from Route #13 -DELMARVA Peninsula:
Follow Route #13 South through the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.  Take first exit after tunnel and turn left onto Shore Drive/Route #60.  Shore Drive will turn into Atlantic Avenue after passing Fort Story.  Atlantic will fork to the left and Pacific Avenue will fork to the right after 45th Street - stay to the right on Pacific Avenue.  Continue straight until it turns into General Booth Boulevard.  Watch for the signs.  Turn left from General Booth onto Dam Neck Road. Follow Dam Neck into the main gate.
