To minimize potential problems in transit make certain that you
hand carry all important documents. Do not pack them with your
household goods. These should include insurance papers, orders,
medical records, etc. If you have a telephone number for your sponsor
and/or your gaining command, carry these somewhere where you will have easy
access to them

and need assistance, you can call your sponsor or the NAS Oceana Quarterdeck
(757) 433-2366/2367. The Command Duty Officer can provide
guidance. You may also call Fleet & Family Support Center toll
free at the 24 Hour Information and Referral Hotline at
1-800-FSC-LINE.
The Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society (757) 425-5789,
can provide financial emergency assistance based upon need, through either loans
or, when there is a particular hardship, grants. Categories of
financial assistance include: basic living expenses (food, shelter, utilities),
medical expenses not covered by TRICARE, dental expenses not covered by
Dependent Dental Plan, funeral expenses, emergency transportation, essential car
repairs, pay and allotment problems, disasters, and assistance for widows,
mothers and children.
