SPONSORSHIP - It is wise to keep in close contact with your
command sponsor. Your sponsor will be the primary point of contact at your new
command, providing you with important information about your new command and the
surrounding communities. If you have "hard copy" orders and a sponsor
has not contacted you, contact your gaining command to request
one. If you are unsure of where to go, you can stop by the Military
Information Booth at the Norfolk International Airport or the USO of Hampton
Roads at the Norfolk or Newport News/Williamsburg International Airports or
contact the Northwest Quarterdeck so you can be directed
appropriately. Be sure to have your service record and orders when
you check-in. To contact the NSA Norfolk, Northwest Annex Quarterdeck
call 757-421-8000.
If your sponsor does not meet you personally upon
arrival to the area, military personnel should report to commands as
follows:
USCG CAMSLANT personnel please call 757-421-6240 (24 hour line) to
report. Marine Corps Security Force Training Company personnel please
call 757-421-8582 during working hours or 757-421-8100 after hours to
report. NCSA SGT F-3 (NATO) personnel please call 757-421-3838 (24
hour line) to report. Training Support Hampton Roads Northwest
Service Center personnel please call 757-421-8109 during working hours or
757-629-9499 after working hours to report.
If your new command is not
listed above, please refer to your orders for further instructions on proper
reporting procedures.
NEWCOMER ORIENTATION - Be sure to stop by the
Relocation Assistance Office at the Fleet & Family Support Center Northwest,
next to the Chapel. You will find information on the lending locker, community
services, recreation, health care, schools, employment services and much more!
The Fleet and Family Support Centers publish an informative brochure entitled
the "Signal" and it can be found at various locations around the Navy bases in
Hampton Roads. Check the Signal for class availability, class dates, times, and
locations. Click on contacts/links in this section for further
information.
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT GETTING MARRIED BEFORE A MOVE - Please
remember that if you get married before a Permanent Change of Station Move
(PCS), you must inform your commander and follow the procedures exactly as you
are given them. The military will not pay for travel and housing of
your spouse if you do not follow the proper procedures.
