Located within a major summer vacation destination, Hampton
Roads' military installations are chock full of events and activities. The
Morale Welfare and Recreation Department (MWR) publishes a monthly informative
magazine entitled "Discover MWR". This magazine is an excellent
source to keep you abreast of base sponsored activities and
events. Ensure you stop by base information centers, MWR Information,
Tours and Ticket (ITT) Offices, and Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC)
Northwest for discount tickets, brochures, guides, and events information.
At Northwest, you can go to the bowling alley, where there are four
lanes, video games, a pool table, and plenty to eat. The Mariner Club has
numerous scheduled activities. During the summer, we recommend the
base swimming pool on a hot day! There are also baseball fields, tennis courts,
and a basketball court.
Another fun activity spot is the Youth Center,
and it is open daily. The Center offers a supervised environment with
a variety of games and activities such as pool, foosball, video games, arts
& crafts, theme parties, and an assortment of table games. A wide
range of weekly and monthly activities are available, such as field trips,
street dances, pizza parties, and many other events and outings. The center has
an active Boys and Girls Club of America. The local 4-H Club sponsors
all sorts of fun events and camps throughout the year, especially in the
summer. There are also many Girl and Boy Scout Troops in the
area.
AMC Space-A travel is widely used in this area - especially by
single sailors. Be sure to investigate the
possibilities! Also, leisure air travel arrangements can be made
through SATO. When placing your ticket order, be sure to mention that you want
to pick them up and pay for them at the NSA Northwest ITT office. For
more information on events, game schedules, discount tickets, and tours call MWR
at
757-421-8260.
The
Northwest Chapel offers Sunday School and Children's Church. Please
call the Chapel at 757-421-8204 for more information and new
activities.
The Hampton Roads area established the Single Marine Program
(SMP) to have Marines identify concerns of quality of life and other aspects of
Marines' lives. Through council meetings single Marines identify
issues, concerns, suggestions, and are involved with programming, and in some
instances coordination of special events and activities. Call
757-445-1312 for more information.
Again, Welcome aboard and don't forget
to stop by Fleet and Family Support Center Northwest!
