VEHICLE OWNERSHIP
To own a vehicle in New York State you
must follow the following guidelines; the vehicle must be insured, inspected by
a registered inspection station, registered with the motor vehicle department,
and operated by a licensed driver.
Vehicle insurance may be obtained by
any State authorized insurance company of your choice. The cost of
insurance will depend on a number of different factors. They are;
number of people who will have access to drive the car, average daily driving
distance, personnel or commercial use of the vehicle, and the dollar amount of
coverage you select to maintain. New York State vehicle insurance is
ranked as one of the most expensive in the country.
Vehicle safety
inspection is required annually. It will cost in the neighbor hood of $14.00
plus any safety repairs that need to be done. Vehicle registration is required
every two years. Cost is determined by the weight of the vehicle.
You
must be at least 16 years old to receive a driver's license. For a first time
applicant you must pass a written examination, an eye examination and a physical
driving test. For those drivers with a valid license from another state the cost
of a NY state license will be prorated based on the age of your non NY
license. To drive on the Niagara Fall ARS you must register your
