There are grocery store/strip malls very close to the
base. Shopping malls are a short drive from the base
area. Downtown Newport has many specialty shops.
The sales tax
is 7%. In general food for home consumption is not
taxable. Prepared food purchased for restaurant or home consumption
is taxable. Clothing and footwear are not taxed.
