New drivers must take written, vision, sign and road
tests. Two forms of identification are required - a document with
complete name and date of birth if possible, and proof of liability
insurance.
A new North Carolina resident has 60 days to obtain a NC
driver's license. Vision, sign and written tests must be taken and a
possible driving test.
Local checks and cash are
accepted. $3.00 per year for class C license, $4.25 per year for
class A or B license, $10.00 for duplicate license, learner's permit or
identification card.
North Carolina license plates and renewal stickers
may be purchased at state motor vehicle license plate agencies. The
license plate or sticker costs $20.00 per automobile for one year, $10.00
annually for a trailer, and $21.50 for a truck license. Cash saves
time in standing in line.
New state residents eventually must change
out-of-state vehicle registrations to North Carolina, but the deadline for
making the change varies. Military personnel do not have to change
registration as long as the vehicle is registered in the home state or record
and the home state does not change.
To register a vehicle in North
Carolina, the vehicle owner must present title or name and address of lien
holder (depending on state) and current registration. Also proof of
current liability insurance license for North Carolina, including the policy
number, proof of identification, and mileage are required. The cost,
ranges from $105.00 to $215.00, based on the value of the
vehicle. Vehicle inspection is required within 10 days after
registration.
Privately owned vehicles operated on MCAS New River must be
registered at the Base Registration Office. Permanent decals are
issued at Bldg 211 during normal working hours.
Permanent or temporary
base vehicle registration requires a valid Armed Forces identification, a valid
operator's license and a valid registration for the vehicle. Also, a
current vehicle insurance policy with coverage required by North
Carolina.
For permanent registration, the owner must produce a valid
inspection sticker and if under age 26, evidence of completion of a base
defensive driving course.
Motorcycle operators must meet the same
requirements. Attendance at a motorcycle safety class is mandatory
for all base motorcycle operators, regardless of age. For more
