On 27 September 1978, the Naval Medical Clinic, New Orleans was
commissioned as an outpatient service facility. On August 7, 1997 the
facility and it's two satellite care centers were re-designated as the Naval
Ambulatory Care Center, New Orleans, an out patient service facility and a
member of the Naval Hospital Pensacola health care community. The
main facility, building H-100, is located on the first floor of the Herbert
Tower at the Naval Support Activity in Algiers.
Satellite care centers
are also located on the first floor of building 601(EastBank) Naval Support
Activity, and building 41, at the Naval Air Station, Joint Reserve Base, Belle
Chase. The quality of outpatient care available through these centers
will be maintained at the highest level possible contingent upon the resources
available.
The Naval Ambulatory Care Center and it's satellite centers
are able to handle acute medical problems as they arise. However,
there are no emergency treatment facility with an emergency room is Keesler Air
Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, located approximately 90 miles east of New
Orleans, LA. In cases of EXTREME or LIFE THREATENING situations,
individuals should go directly to a civilian hospital that has and emergency
room. All active duty, their beneficiaries, and retired personnel are
strongly advised to confer with the Health Benefits Advisor at the Main Care
Center, (504)678-2400 ext. 3039 concerning TRICARE information. All
active duty personnel and TRICARE prime personnel enrolled at the main facility
seeking care after about 1600 M-F, and during the weekend must notify the
Medical Officer of the Day at 678-3660 prior to seeking treatment at a civilian
treatment facility. The only exception are cases of extreme or life
threatening situations. NOTE: Emergency ambulance service is provided
by the appropriate parish, utilizing 911.
