Traffic - Nevada state laws apply on base. Speed limit
on Nellis is 25 MPH unless otherwise posted. Seats belts are
mandatory. The safety belt law is a primary offense. This
means if a vehicle is stopped for any reason by an enforcement officer and the
occupants are not wearing safety belts, a citation will be issued to the driver
or adult passengers. If the passenger is a minor over 5 years of age,
but under 18 years of age, a citation is written to the driver. The
citation is not a moving violation, and may not be considered in any civil
action. The fine for not wearing a safety belt can be
expensive. State, local, and base officials can stop vehicles for
suspected non use of seat belts. Child seats/restraints are mandatory
for children under age 5 and weighing less than 50 pounds. Exemptions
to Nevada's safety belt law are as follows:
- Medical
reasons: A physician's certificate must be in the occupant's
possession.
- U.S. Postal Service employees
delivering mail in the rural areas of this state.
- Delivery
vehicles that make frequent stops and do not exceed 15
mph.
- Passengers of public transportation, school buses,
taxis, or emergency vehicles.
Vehicle Checks - All vehicles entering and
leaving Nellis AFB are subject to search.
