Military
spouses who have federal status or who have worked for the Department
of Defense in a permanent position are eligible to register for the
Spouse Preference Program. If you are a status employee (3 years
without a break in service), you have reinstatement eligibility
indefinitely. If you worked in a permanent position for less than 3
years (career conditional), you have reinstatement eligibility for up
to 3 years. Spousal preference only exists for DoD. No other
agency recognizes spouse preference. If you are a current
federal employee, be sure to maintain a copy of your Form 50
(Notification of Personnel Action) your most recent leave and earning
statement, current performance appraisal, and an updated federal
resume. Contact the Human Resource Office up to 30 days
before your active duty spouse is due to arrive at the new duty station
to register for spouse preference. Once you arrive at your
new duty station, check-in with the Human Resources Office to check the
status of your registration and to gain additional information about
current job openings.
If you have no prior federal experience visit the civilian personnel
office in your area for assistance in applying. You may also apply for
federal positions through the OPM website. Please carefully
review the job announcement to ensure qualifications are met.
Other opportunities for employment on the installation include Morale, Welfare & Recreation, and the Navy Exchange.
