ATTENTION SPECIAL NEEDS GROUPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Fort Meade community is in a prime location for those personnel having family members with special needs.  Our close proximity to large medical centers (Bethesda, Walter Reed, Children's National Medical Center, Johns Hopkins) accounts for our large numbers of special needs families assigned.  Resources are abundant. There are many medical services provided by Fort Meade's Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center.  Any services needed, but not provided, are usually referred to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, National Naval Medical Center (Bethesda), or Andrews Air Force Base. Kimbrough lost its Emergency Room due to BRAC initiatives.  Anyone on post with an emergency should call 911.  They will be taken to the nearest civilian hospital. Commands located at Fort Meade are fortunate, not only to be in the general vicinity of National Naval Medical Center (Bethesda) and Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC), but to also have a military clinic on the installation. For those patients having appointments at  Walter Reed , a shuttle bus is available.  For information, call the hospital's information desk, 677-8392.
