TRAFFIC: All personnel operating a motor vehicle on post are required to comply with provisions of Fort Meade Reg. # 190 and Maryland Motor Vehicle Laws. Speed is limited to 25 mph on post unless otherwise specified. Vehicles are required to reduce speed to 10 mph while passing troop formations and to maintain a minimum clearance of five feet from marching troops.
VEHICLE CHECKS: Due to the events of 9/11, there are 100% ID checks 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Be prepared to show government ID, registration and insurance information. To gain access to post, you must register your vehicle with PMO. REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY.
ACCIDENTS: All vehicle accidents that occur on post must be reported to Military Police, Traffic Branch, 677-6622. Minor accidents are recorded and serve as a basis for future claims or insurance company information.
VEHICLE REGISTRATION: All people who live and work on Fort George G. Meade are required to register their vehicle(s). The policy applies to all Department of Defense personnel, military and civilian to include those employed by nonappropriated fund activities. It also includes contractors who work on Fort Meade or who would require access to facilities during emergency conditions or periods of restricted access.
To register a vehicle you must show: an ID showing government affiliation; a valid drivers license and valid registration as well as proof of insurance. If the vehicle is not owned by the registrant, the owner must authorize the registration with either a power of attorney or a notarized letter. VEHICLE REGISTRATION IS LOCATED IN THE VISITOR CONTROL CENTER, Bldg 902 on Reece Rd.
For those who have not yet registered their vehicles, the provost marshal encourages them to stop by the center during OFF-PEAK (non-rush hour) times. For more information, call 677-1064/1068.

DRIVERS LICENSE: The Motor Vehicle Administration examines and licenses drivers, conducts driver training programs, title/registers vehicles, issues identification cards to adult non-drivers. Serves persons 16 and older. Fees vary. State residency required. Service members who retain residency in their home state are not required to obtain a Maryland driver's license. New residents must apply for a Maryland drivers license, motor vehicle title, and license plates within 30 days of establishing residency. Spouses of military must apply upon becoming employed.
