The Family Advocacy Program's goal is to promote readiness by
enhancing the health, welfare and morale of Air Force families.
The
Family Advocacy Program has three components to achieve this
goal:
Outreach/Prevention-provides support and strengthens healthy family
life. After assessing family requirements, programs are designed and
offered to address those needs. Services include and are not limited
to: identification of and reporting procedures for child/spouse/elder
abuse, parenting classes, communication skills classes, anger and stress
management. Educational services for first-time parents are available through
the Family Advocacy Nurse Specialist.
Family Maltreatment
Intervention--when domestic violence (child abuse/neglect, child sexual abuse,
spouse abuse) occurs, the Family Advocacy Program responds to ensure victim
safety and stop the violence. The Family Advocacy Program utilizes
various treatment options with the support of on or off base community
agencies. Intervention can include individual therapy, marital
therapy, interpersonal groups and other services required.
Exceptional
Family Member Program--This program is for active duty personnel with adult or
child family members who have exceptional medical and/or educational
needs. An exceptional medical need usually means that regular care by
a medical specialist is required. An exceptional educational need
usually means a child has an Individualized Education Plan and is in a special
education program. The purpose of the program is to help assure the
availability of the required services locally, and in the assignment process.
Dependent Relocation Clearance through the program is required prior to overseas
assignment and in CONUS assignment actions.
