5th Services and Minot AFB offers a wide variety of activities
and some of the best facilities in the Air Force.
J. R. Rockers is a
combination Sports caf and the Enlisted club. The sports caf offers
a contemporary menu with large portions and great taste. The recent
addition of the multi-purpose room the "Top of the Rock" allows additional
seating during busy times and is available for smaller functions.
Doolittle Center provides quality programs for club members and their
guests. A hub of activity, most special functions, holiday parities
and recurring meetings are held in this conference center setting. An
innovative all ranks lunch program Monday through Friday, champagne brunch, A
Touch of Class every month, and Ground Zero lounge menu highlight the food
operation.
The Rough Rider Bowling Center has 22 lanes and is
open to serve you 12 months a year. Lights and strikes remains a
popular weekend program and compliments the birthday package offered on
Saturdays. Kelly's Place is a full service snack bar; the price is
right any day of the week.
The Rough Rider Golf Course is a 9-hole
course, generaly open for business April through September. During
the winter months, golfers stay conditioned with the indoor golf
simulator. A limited snack bar is available for golfers on the
go.
The Skills development Center offers a variety of classes year round,
offering customers opportunities to learn new skills from painting to
framing. The laser engraver, computerized matte cutter and embroidery
machine continue to meet customer needs.
Outdoor activities
are a popular way to spend your time at Minot AFB. Outdoor Recreation
provides many unique opportunities such as jet skiing, indoor archery range,
archery/rifle simulator, climbing wall, snowmobiling, all terrain vehicles, and
the best selection of boat and camper rentals found anywhere in the local
area. UPS also operates out of the facility. The operation
has many community components including the indoor and outdoor pools, Fam Camp,
Bud Ebert Park, RV storage lot, paintball field, vehicle resale lot, and garden
plots. A variety of items are available for rental including down
hill and cross-country skis, snow blades, and ice skates to keep away the cabin
fever.
Treasure Island is a new indoor Fun Center with
batting cages, climbing wall, mini golf and skateboard area along with a small
snack bar.
The Youth Center is the largest in the Air Force. They offer
activities before and after school, both summer and winter day camps with every
thing from life skills courses to weekly field trips. The Teen Center
offers a wide variety of activities including a Power-Up computer lab with
internet capability, YES program for college dollars, Boys and Girls Club
leadership programs, and the Congressional Award Program. Open
recreation provides a wide range of self directed activities such as, board
games, wide screen T.V., table games, and computer lab with internet capability
and Video games. A highly successful sports program features leagues
for all ages. Wee Sports is offered to our youngest
members. Also popular are lock-ins, Fantastic Fridays, the inflatable
splat wall, bouncy castle, and sticky challenge.
The Community Center is
key to providing quality of life for the Minot Air Force Base
community. In addition to two rooms for special groups and squadron
meetings, this family center includes Rough Riders, cyber caf, children's Play
land. The recent upgrade project expanded the cyber caf to 24
computers, created a coffee lounge, and merged the sub to the pizza
operation. With a focus on airmen, the staff provides recreational
activities called "Dorm Escapes". This program targets 18 to 21 year
old dorm residents. Activities include Christmas Eve party, Easter
Egg money hunt, pool tournaments, table tennis club, performing arts, and LAN
parties. The Cyber Caf is primarily for airmen and spouses of
deployed personnel. All computers have internet capabilities and
provide dorm residents a comfortable place to "surf the net". Recent
additions to the Cyber Caf include 12 additional computers, Video games, an
X-Box, Nintendo Game Cube, and two Sony Play Stations. The Cyber Caf
has no service charge for use, making this a very popular program. A
Talent Show held at the base theater in December entertained over 250 guests who
thoroughly enjoyed 14 performers.
