The Millington area celebrates "Goat Days" every September. It is 21 miles north of downtown Memphis. HISTORY This base was first commissioned as a Naval Reserve Air Base (NRAB) September 15, 1942 used to train pilots and ground crews for World War 11. There have been many name changes since its inception. It is now home to Naval Support Activity Mid-South as of October 1, 1998 to more closely identify the base's mission requirements and to reflect the Navy's approach to regionization. It is host to many tenant activities and covers 1600 acres.

POPULATION SERVED Naval Support Activity Mid-South has 600 enlisted and officer personnel, civilians, and full-time contract personnel who provide all essential logistic and operational support services to the commands and activities on board. Considered by resident activities as the landlord of Navy Mid-South, the Naval Support Activity Mid-South performs the many tasks necessary for the proper functioning of a self-contained city, including housing, food service, utilities and facilities for purchase of essential food and personal items.
SPONSORSHIP If one is in need of a sponsor, contact your receiving command. Generally, the sponsor will meet you at the airport if previously arranged. All check-in procedures must be conducted in the Uniform of the Day. If one arrives during normal work hours, report to PSD (BLDG S456). The phone number is 901 874-5254. If arrival occurs after working hours, report to Security (BLDC S237) to obtain reporting endorsements, then report to respective command the following workday.
TEMPORARY QUARTERS Please make reservations in advance at the Navy Inns/BQ Programs by calling 901 872-0521. If you wish to spend the night at the Navy Lodge, please call 901 872-0121. During certain annual events held in Memphis, all hotels and motels will be booked. The events are Memphis in May, Elvis week in August, COGIC Convention in November and the Liberty Bowl in December.
RELOCATION ASSISTANCE The FFSC Loaner Locker provides items such as cookware, dinnerware, folding mattresses, irons and ironing boards for temporary use by newly arriving personnel awaiting household goods shipment. Please schedule you and your spouse for the newcomers orientation/indoctrination with Navy Personnel Command as soon as you arrive.
