The surrounding communities have several events that are held on
an annual basis. This section will provide information on these
events as scheduled. Millington hosts a Flag Day Celebration in June and a
Cotton Country Festival in October of each year. Atoka has a Day in the Park in
October which features crafts, food, & entertainment for the whole family.
Munford has "Celebrate" the 2nd Sat in Sept which has food, crafts,
entertainment, a 5K race and fireworks. Several communities have Christmas light
displays & parades.Parks & Recreation: The park commission operates over
200 parks. Special features are community centers, golf courses,
tennis courts, special programs for senior citizens, children and handicapped.

The high schools
have a large variety of clubs such as Beta Club, 4-H, Mu Alpha Theta, Drama
Club, Computer Club, etc. Check in your student handbook for the
clubs meeting your criteria.

Activities for Memphis kids is available for viewing (no checkout) in the
reference section of the Millington Library. Sports/riding, theater,
volunteer opportunities, schools, overnight camps, day camps and some special
events are some of the areas covered. Parents shouldn't skip this
great resource. The Friday edition of the Commercial Appeal newspaper
includes a what to do entertainment section. Don't
despair. Some of the activities are no or low cost. The
local library and other facilities carry newsletters geared to youth
activities. Memphis Parent is one of these. Even the
hospitals have newsletters. Don't forget to check the Blue Jacket,
the base newspaper.Memphis offers many recreational and sporting activities for
its youth. These include: putt-putt, batting cages,
go-kart tracks, arcades, movie theaters, Libertyland Amusement Park, several
golf courses, classes in dance, karate, art and theater. Many
communities offer sports programs in baseball, basketball, soccer, football and
cheerleading. Check with the community center in your
area.
The area high schools offer interscholastic sports in basketball,
baseball, softball, cross country, track, golf, tennis, soccer, volleyball,
wrestling, football and cheerleading. Some middle schools have
basketball, baseball and cheerleading.Many churches in the Memphis area offer
religious education and youth groups for their members. Check with
