The Family Advocacy Program is a Department of Defense initiative
for the prevention, education, intervention and treatment of child physical
abuse, child neglect, child sexual abuse, spouse abuse, and sexual
assault. The clinic receives reports of suspected maltreatment,
assesses the circumstances and determines if maltreatment is substantiated or
unsubstantiated. Services offered are assessment, treatment,
referral, case management, support groups, marriage enrichment classes,
parenting classes and special programs for the month of the military child,
domestic violence awareness month, and the month of the military
family.
The NEW PARENT SUPPORT PROGRAM is a program designed to maximize
positive parental-infant interaction through education and support by the Family
Advocacy Nurse Specialist and staff. The critical time for this
development is seen between 4 months gestation and three years post
partum. Tools used to facilitate this interaction are early
intervention through office visits, classes, home visits, mailings, telephone
consults, and support groups.
