McChord is fortunate to have its own state-of-the-art medical
facility on base, as well as access to Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC) just
down the road at Fort Lewis when more specialized or emergency care is
necessary.
Emergency and ambulance services are not offered
at the McChord Medical Clinic. In the event of an emergency, 911
should be called or you should go to the nearest emergency room for
care. MAMC has an emergency room and the MAMC ambulance service
responds to on-base emergencies.
All active duty newcomers attend a
medical orientation called Medical Right Start (MRS). Family members
are highly encouraged to attend to learn about medical entitlements and how to
use the medical services. Your gaining Orderly Room will coordinate
your attendance date.
Upon arrival, it is crucial that you enroll
yourself and your family in TRICARE. This can be done during MRS or
at the TRICARE Service Center, located in the Medical Clinic across from the
Family Practice Clinic.
Dental services on base are available to active
duty members only. Family members have the option of enrolling in the
United Concordia Dental Plan, and there are several providers in the local area
who accept this coverage.
