The Family Employment Readiness program's goals are to assist
family members in finding employment during relocation, enable family members to
relocate more readily with their sponsors, provide information on employment and
education, assist family members in choosing career opportunities that are
compatible with a mobile lifestyle, develop successful job search skills, and
career goal settings, connect family members with employer, business,
professional and support networks, and provide self-assessment
assistance.
The Family Employment Readiness Program (FERP) was
established by the navy to provide counseling and referral service as outlined
in OPNAV Instruction 1754.1a, and SECNAV Instruction 1754.1 and 1754.4, Public
Law 101-189 and DOD 1342.22.
The Fleet & Family Support Center has a
Family Employment Readiness Program (FERP) Specialist to coordinate the program
and assist:
- Military family members
- Retirees and their family
members
- Spouses of relocating DON civilian employees
The program
includes, but is not limited to:
- Job preparation
- Myers-Briggs Type
Indicator and Self Directed Search administration
