The employment atmosphere in the
Montgomery area is steady and growing. Reasonable commuting areas include
Prattville, Elmore, Wetumpka, and Millbrook. Montgomery offers a
wealth of employment opportunities in a wide variety of fields, including
manufacturing, health care, service industry, professional and many more. There
are full- and part-time positions available, and many resources to help
individuals find a match for their skills and experience within the workforce.
The current unemployment in Montgomery area is 3.2%
Montgomery is the
capital of Alabama with the majority of state government jobs (9,500 employees)
located in this area. The Federal Government is the largest employer in the area
due to Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base (12,700 employees). Baptist Health Systems
employees over 4,000 employees and the Montgomery Public Schools employ 4,000
employees as well.
Fastest Growing Occupations are health-related,
computer-related and production occupations utilized by automobile assembly

Force Exchange Service (AAFES) positions; Department of Justice (Federal
Prison); Department of Defense Domestic Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS)
and several government contractors through the Maxwell Support Division (MSD)
