Both Public and Private Schools in the area surrounding
Montgomery, Prattville, Millbrook and Wetumpka educate high school age
students. This section contains information public high

There are three
county public school systems serving this area: Montgomery County School System,
Autauga County School System and Elmore County Schools. Transportation is
provided to students enrolled in the public schools. A detailed listing of each

The
Montgomery Public School System is fully accredited by both the State Department
of Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. A
widely acclaimed magnet school program offer accelerated courses, while special
schools and home services are available for mentally retarded, learning disabled
and services are available for mentally retarded, learning disabled and
physically handicapped students.
The Montgomery Public School System
offers Magnet School Programs for academically advanced students in the
Montgomery area. Creative and performing arts; mass communication;
teaching and Human Services; Math, Science and Technology; Advanced Technology;
and Humanities, Writing and Communications are programs available for advanced
students. Magnet schools are also available for students who are
interested in the creative and performing arts. There are specific requirements
to enroll into either the Academics or Arts program. Acceptance into
the program is based upon an academic record and/or motivation in the
arts. Admission into these schools is by application and there is a
pre-registration process for the up-coming school year and in most cases a
waiting list. The applications for the Magnet schools will be

Graduation
Requirements:
Five different high school graduation certificates may be
earned. The standard high school diploma requires 22 units of credit
and successful completion of the Alabama High School Graduation
Examination. Those students who earn the required 22 units, but do
not attain a passing score on the exam, receive a certificate of
completion. An advanced high school diploma is awarded to those who
accumulate 23 credit units, and an arts diploma is awarded to those who earn 22
hours of credit and have at least two years participation in the magnet program.
An advanced honors diploma may be earned with 25 hours of academic credit and
three years of work in the magnet program.
In the Alabama High School
Graduation Examination, 11th graders in the Montgomery Public Schools
consistently attain scores in the high 90s in reading, mathematics and
languages. On the American College Test, they score higher than the
statewide average and exceed the national average in most areas. On
the Stanford Achievement Test, Montgomery students also exceed both state and
national averages.
Senior high school students may register at the
appropriate school at any time. The Superintendent of Montgomery
City/County School s office is located in the central office. For

variety of extra-curricular activities for high school students. Each school's
