Traffic is at the top of the list of concerns for residents of
this area. The population has more than doubled in the last twenty
years causing traffic jams on the freeways to stretch for
miles. Figures show a 100 percent increase in traffic in the last ten
years. Riverside County is linked to neighboring counties by
Interstate 215 and 10 and by the 91 and 60 Freeways. The Riverside Freeway,
which carries commuters from Riverside County to jobs in Orange County and Los
Angeles, is one of the most congested in the state. Commuters travel
anywhere from 35 to 100 miles one way and the morning and evening "rush hour"
can last up to four hours.
