The MAIN STREET MALL between 5th Street and
University is a charming place to browse. A beautifully landscaped pedestrian
walk way is flanked by a collection of small shops full of carefully chosen
merchandise.
Here one can choose a special gift, perhaps a
custom-created basket of living plants an antique, or a box of chocolates.
Specializing in the unique, this area is like a step back in time.
Specialty coffee shops and luncheon restaurants, some featuring their
own fresh baked breads and pastries, tempt your taste buds with their aromas.
Across the railroad tracks and under the freeway is a new development
called the RIVERSIDE MARKETPLACE. Home of Metrolink, restaurants and shops, the
Marketplace incorporates structures as well as new development such as office
buildings, a multiplex theater, restaurants and specialty stores. The Old
Spaghetti Factory Restaurant, the first business in the project, opened in
October 1990 in the renovated Sutherland Packing House.
The Mission Inn
District evokes Riversides' historic past and preserves its architectural
traditions with its beautifully renovated buildings. The Downtown pedestrian
mall with its shops, art galleries and sidewalk cafe attracts shoppers and those
seeking a relaxed environment, as well as visitors from the nearby Convention
Center.
The Marketplace project, with its Metrolink Commuter station, is
well on its way to becoming an important retail and entertainment center in
Riverside's Downtown area. Restaurants, sports bars, movie theaters, outlet
retail and other attractions can take advantage of the freeway visibility and
commuter rail accessibility, and provide mass market recreational opportunities.
CANYON CREST TOWN CENTRE is a charming 22 acre neighborhood theme center
with supermarket, theater complex, health club, restaurants, and specialty shops
convenient to the surrounding residential area, and just 5 minutes from
downtown.
A variety of other shopping centers anchored by major discount
and department stores are located throughout the city.
The RIVERSIDE
PLAZA
Riverside Plaza, in the heart of Riverside's Magnolia Center, boasts
Gottschalk's Department Store, Trader Joe's, Sav-on Drugs, and Island's
Restaurant. Currently being renovated, the Plaza is slated for
numerous new retail outlets, so check back for new store
listings.
Riverside Plaza is located on Central Avenue just west of the
Riverside (91) freeway.
The MORENO VALLEY Mall, approximately 5 miles
from March ARB is home to such stores as:
Robinson's-May, Gottschalks,
JCPenney, Sears, d.e.m.o., Bath & Body Works, Pacific Sunwear and Victoria's
Secret! Thrill the kids with a carousel ride and enjoy great dining at the Food
Court.
