INSTALLATION VEHICLE REGISTRATION:
Vehicles operated on base by persons assigned to MacDill must be registered and must display the base decal. Registration and decals may be acquired at Visitor Center Bldg 1098, (813-828-2737) Dale Mabry entrance to the base or at the MacDill Family Resource Center, Brandon (813-655-9281) The requirements for permanent registration are a valid driver's license, military or civilian identification card, valid state auto registration and proof of insurance.
POV INSURANCE REQUIREMENT:
Every Florida resident operating a motor vehicle in Florida must have insurance that complies with the Florida "No Fault" Law. This requirement also applies to non-resident owners or registrants of motor vehicles physically present within the state for more than 90 of the preceding 365 days. The minimum required insurance coverage is $10,000 Personal Injury Protection (PIP) per person plus property damage/liability coverage in the minimum amount of $10,000. STATE DRIVER'S LICENSE:
A Florida Operator's License is required 30 days after you become a permanent resident. If you have a valid license from another state, you need only take a vision test. An original Social Security card and two ID's with full name and date of birth are required. With tickets or violations, a road signs test and vision test are required. Handbooks are available at the exam stations and online.
Operator's License (16 and 17 year old) - To earn an operator's license, you must be at least 16 years old AND have held a learner's license for at least one year without any traffic convictions.
You must provide:
A Florida Learner's License or a license from another jurisdiction. Parent or guardian certification that you have at least 50 hours of behind the wheel driving experience, of which 10 hours must be at night.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
Headlights - Full Headlights are required when driving in the rain, at dusk or in fog.
Right Turn - Right turn on red is permitted after a full stop, unless prohibited by a sign or signal.
Seat Belts - All front seat occupants must buckle up or the driver may be fined.
Children - Children age six and under must be buckled up regardless of where they are sitting in the vehicle. Children ages, four and five must be secured in either a seat belt or approved child restraint seat; children under the age of four must be secured in an approved car seat. Failure to keep children buckled may result in fines.
CELLULAR PHONE USAGE POLICY: (Military & Civilian)
While driving a POV on MacDill or operating a Gov vehicle on or off base, a hands free device must be used when talking on a cellular phone.
