SPOUSE ASSISTANCE
The Career Focus Program at the Family Support Center is an employment assistance program designed to provide information and employability skills training for military spouses to enable them to enter or re-enter the job market. The program actively seeks to help spouses prepare for their job search and obtain employment in addition to providing long and short term career counseling.
Services available: job referrals, educational opportunities, resume/job application assistance and resource library. Workshops are offered weekly to assist with career development in resume writing, interviewing skills, job search, and federal jobs.
If coming from overseas locations, spouses of military members may be eligible for unemployment benefits with the state of Florida. If coming from another state, you may apply via an interstate claim. Eligibility for unemployment benefits varies from state to state. You must register with the Florida State Employment Service to apply for unemployment in the state of Florida.
Military spouses may be eligible for preference in some Dept of Defense hiring. In order to be eligible, the spouse must be already serving on an excepted appointment overseas or on a career or career-conditional appointment at the time of the PCS orders are issued. The spouse must be placed on leave without pay or be separated from their appointment due to PCS in order to receive spouse preference priority placement consideration.
