The 6 Medical Group provides the highest quality, comprehensive medical care to the MacDill Community.
Under the 6th Medical Group's management is the 6th Medical Support Squadron, the 6th Aerospace Medicine Squadron, the 6th Medical Operations Squadron and the 6th Dental Squadron. The functions and responsibilities of the medical support squadron include resource management, TRICARE, CHAMPUS, medical logistics, medical information systems, diagnostic and theraputic services, and personnel and administration. The aerospace medicine squadron consists of flight medicine, health promotion, public health, readiness, and bioenviromental. The medical operations squadron is made up of medical services, surgical services, and maternal/child care, and the dental squadron handles all dental responsibilities.
Medical services available include: Dental Clinic, General Surgery, Health Benefits Advisors, Immunization Clinic, Internal Medicine, ENT Clinic, Family Practice Clinic, Flight Medicine Clinic, Ophthalmology, Optometry Clinic, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Radiology, and TRICARE.
Medical care services are offered on a priority basis. First priority of care is to active duty military. Second priority is to family members of active duty with retired military and family members of retired military following the eligibility chain. Dental care services are available to active duty military only. When services are unavailable, those eligible for medical/dental care are referred to TRICARE.
The hospital provides a variety of services to include the Special Needs Identification and Assignment coordination Process Program.
TRICARE, the Department of Defense's (DoD) health care plan, provides a wide variety of medical services in the local community and can be accessed through the Tricare program.
