There is a newcomer's orientation for youth 6-18 years at the
Youth Center once a month. While there is no official sponsorship program in
place, if you contact the Youth Center they will attempt to link you with a
sponsor. The "Volunteen Program" is very popular and offers teenage family
members of active duty personnel the opportunity to earn Air Force Aid funding
for their college expenses. A variety of activities including roller skating
trips, Chef Night, Bingo, Computer Night, pool parties, Karaoke, arts &
crafts, field trips and out of town (ski)trips, sports, music lessons, dances,
homework assistance, clubs and free play activities are available at the 30,000
square foot Youth Center. It is equipped with state of the art computer system
and a full size gymnasium. The Youth Center offers programs just for teens and
publishes a monthly calendar listing teen activities. There is a Teen Advisory
Committee that helps plan and coordinate teen activities. "Talk With Teens"
offers a discussion and educational forum for issues of interest to teens such
as how to find a job. The TEENSupreme Keystone Club promotes leadership and
citizenship training and service to the community such as participating in "Make
a Difference Day", a local community project to assist a family or neighborhood
program and "Adopt-A-Family for Christmas." Activities at the Center include
Playstation, homework assistance, movie night, table and game challenges,
aerobics, open gym and sporting competition.
DRIVER'S LICENSE - Driving
permits can be obtained at age 15 1/2 and driver's license at age 16. Usually a
driver's license is needed for employment. Insurance rates are high in
Arizona!
CURFEW - Luke has been annexed by the City of Glendale and the
curfew laws apply on and off base. Dependents or civilians of the following ages
will not be allowed on the streets of Luke Air Force Base, including the housing
and dormitory areas unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian during the
hours indicated below: 16 and 17 years of age between 1 and 5 a.m. 15 years of
age and under between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Exceptions: Newspaper
persons while delivering papers. Dependents and their guests returning directly
home after attending special functions, previously sanctioned by the base and
coordinated with Security Police Operations. Special functions shall include,
but are not limited to, late dances, movies, and special shows or events.
