Pass and Registration is located in the lobby of Bldg. 272. The office issues AF Form 75 visitor/vehicle passes, DD Form 2220 vehicle decals and security badges. AFTER YOU ARRIVE: Los Angeles AFB does not have a 24-hour reporting station. If you are flying into the area, please arrange for your sponsor to greet you at the airport. If you arrive after duty hours call the SMC Command Post at (310) 363-2353.
1. We recommend that you arrive during duty hours Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 4:00pm, for easier in-processing. If you are assigned to the medical squadron, report to the Clinic in Area B. Those assigned to all other units will go to the 61 MSS Orderly Room in Area B, Building 219, The People Center, Room 1905. If you arrive after duty hours contact your sponsor or the SMC Command Post.
2. Go to the Family Support Center, in Building 219, Room 1907, for community information and assistance. You may also check out items from the loan closet for use until your household goods arrive.
3. To assist your travel around Los Angeles County, buy a Thomas Guide. This booklet is a series of street maps in the county, and is an excellent guide to the County freeway system. The books are available in many community stores and in the LAAFB Base Exchange.
4. If you plan to rent an apartment in the area, be prepared to buy a new or used refrigerator. Apartment units will usually have a stove, but not a refrigerator. Family Support Center Loan Closet has no refrigerators, but such items are often listed for sale in the base newspaper and in other community papers.
5. Attend the Newcomer's Orientation and the Newcomer's Bus Tour. Bring your spouse to these events.
6. If you have children, the Air Force Aid Society can help with babysitting. The Child Care for PSC program offers 20 hours of free childcare for Air Force families who are new to Los Angeles AFB. Contact the LAAFB Relocation Manager at your Family Support Center for a childcare certificate and a list of home day care providers. Childcare is available during your first 60 days of relocation.
7. Don't forget: The DD Form 1840 (pink form) should be filled out at delivery of your household goods. The DD Form 1840R (reverse of DD Form 1840) must be filled out and delivered to the claims office within 70 days after delivery. NOTE: THIS IS NOT FILING A CLAIM!! Contact the Legal Office if you need to file a claim.
8. Go to the Tricare office in Building 219 to transfer your family members to TriWest.
IN-PROCESSING/NEWCOMERS' ORIENTATION
Los Angeles AFB in-processing is held weekly, 0830-1100, in Building 219.
LAAFB sponsors a great newcomers' bus tour on the last Monday of each month. A local tour guide introduces newcomers to historic sites in downtown Los Angeles and surrounding areas.
The monthly Newcomers' Orientation is held on the last week of each month, in The Club, Building 120, Area A, starting at 0800 Tuesday. This is a time to greet the commanders, hear about base services, and visit information booths hosted by the Family Support Center, Services, the Clinic, the Aerospace Credit Union and others. Mandatory First Duty trainings are scheduled during the week. Spouses are encouraged to attend.
