The Spouse Employment Assistance Program (SEAP) was established
on November 8th, 1985 as part of the "Military Family Act of
1985." Changes in economic and labor market conditions, and research
conducted in the early 1980s indicated that spouse employment issues could have
an effect on retention and readiness of military members.
The
Department of the Navy recognized that frequent relocations associated with the
military lifestyles create career challenges in basic workshops, such as
launching a job search, career planning, resume writing, interview techniques,
Federal employment information, conducting self-assessment, goal setting, and
vocational tests.
The Spouse Employment Assistance Program
here at Naval Air Station Lemoore provides a variety of services to assist the
transitioning military spouse. Resources available include libraries,
list of major employers in the local area, computer tutorial programs, typing
tests services in the Central Valley, and employment opportunities within the
local community.
Military Spouse Preference provides priority in the
employment selection process for military spouses who are relocating as a result
of their military spouse's Permanent Change of Station (PCS). Spouse
preference does not apply to separation or retirement moves. Spouses
must be found best-qualified for the position and may exercise preference no
more than one time per permanent relocation of the
sponsor. Preference does not mean that positions will be created or
made available especially for military spouses or that spouses will be given any
special appointing authority. Preference does not provide any
guarantee of employment. Preference is limited to DoD employment
(appropriated and non-appropriated fund jobs, including installation Exchange);
it is not applicable to employment with other federal agencies.
If you
are current a civil service employee and will be coming to NAS Lemoore with
Military Spouse Preference, the following items are a must: A current
resumix posted on the Department of the Navy's web site, SF50 showing that you
are Leave Without Pay (LWOP), SF50 showing your appointment, your latest
performance apprisal, and your spouse's orders. You must make an
appoint with Civilian Personnel.
